“If only I’d started my microblading career a few years ago, I would have complete freedom by now”
“If only I’d quit this job earlier.”
“I should have pursued that degree.”
Have you ever heard yourself pronouncing something like this?
During uncertain times, these feelings are even more emphasized, and you’ll have to admit - during the crisis, you have a good excuse for not advancing your career.
That’s why today we’ll help you discover whether your thoughts are justified, help you make the right decision, and show you how you can start a new career even in uncertain times.
We’ll cover:
- The definition of uncertain times
- Recognize your fears
- Overcome your fears
- Microblading during recession
What are uncertain times, anyway?
Uncertain times refer to periods of instability and unpredictability. During these times, we lack clarity about the future, which causes fear, anxiety, and actions that we would not usually perform.
Examples of uncertain times from the past:
- The Great Recession of 2008
- World War II
- The 9/11 Terrorist Attack
- COVID-19 pandemic
- The Recession of 2023
As you can see, this is not the first time we’re in the middle of something unpredictable, so we have something to learn from.
For starters, it’s 100% sure that each of these crises made us feel:
- Anxious: Cousing us enormous amounts of stress where we constantly worry about the future.
- Depressed: Feeling hopeless, that we’re never going to move forward.
- Paralyzed: Feeling that we are stuck, and are unable to make decisions.
Yet, millions of new successful businesses were born just in the middle of these crises. People turned the problem into an opportunity and adjusted to the new normal. - According to a report by Yelp, more than 500,000 new businesses opened in the United States in 2020, a 14% increase from 2019. - Just when COVID-19 hit.
- According to the Kauffman Index, new business creation increased by 24% in 2020 compared to 2019.
- A report by Freshbooks found that 27% of small business owners reported an increase in profits during the pandemic.
Acknowledging and recognizing our feelings before starting a new career
Before we decide to make a major move such as starting a business or switching careers, it’s important to understand how we feel about it, and why we feel that way. Are our feelings justified?
Here are some questions that can help you get to know your feelings:
- What’s the worst that can happen if I decide to pursue a new career? What am I putting at risk?
- Am I qualified enough to succeed?
- If my family decides to support me, would I still be on the fence?
- How often do I think about what would others say?
- If I had lost my current job, what would I do?
- What am I hoping will change, so that I can pursue my dreams?
After you answer these questions, you should be able to recognize the source of the feelings and determine whether your feelings are connected to uncertain times or self-confidence.
Overcome the fear of starting a new microblading career
As we mentioned at the beginning, uncertain times multiply the reasons that are holding us back, and it’s scientifically proven. In psychology, it’s called confirmation bias, which means that we focus on information that feeds our fear, and ignore anything that contradicts that belief.
So if we listen to the news and gather information on the recession, crisis, or uncertain times, we’ll easily dismiss anything that’s proving us the other way.
That’s why it’s important to focus on these two topics:
- Do I believe I’m qualified enough, and what do I need to do to become so?
- What’s the real market status, and how can I turn the current state into an opportunity?
If you are struggling with thoughts that you are lacking a skill or a certificate, you’re not the only one. And what we’ve proven it’s the best tactic, it’s to identify the skills you are missing.
You need to switch careers or start your own business, so list down everything you need to learn or gain.
It can be:
- Technical skills
- Theoretical knowledge
- Certification
- Marketing and business development knowledge
- Organizational skills
Whatever it is, once you listed it, you can go step by step, find an Academy that offers all of them, and gain those skills.
Microblading market during uncertain times
While the beauty industry, like all industries, it’s not immune to the economic impact of a recession, statistics from the past prove that the demand for beauty services has either been steady or growing during crises. This is due to increasing awareness and changing customer preferences.
In a survey by the National Bureau of Economic Research, 42% of respondents said a recession wouldn't make them cut back on beauty services.
Global beauty salon revenues are expected to reach $49.3 billion by 2025, driven by factors such as growth in demand for beauty and personal care services, especially in emerging markets.
Even though it’s tough to predict what exactly will happen in the near future, there’s no doubt the beauty industry has proven to be resilient. And the sooner you turn any challenge into an opportunity, you’ll be more successful.
Beauty procedures such as microblading are no longer nice-to-haves. Beauty has become essential, just like personal hygiene. Even during Covid, we realized that people are going to break the law, just to get their beauty treatment.
So don’t let the uncertain times stop you, let them help you be smarter and more confident.
