PhiBrows treatment after care

15 minutes read

First prepare your canvas.

As is the case will all important work, preparation is one of the most important elements to ensuring success.

Each client must be informed of the after care process, in order to achieve the best possible results.  Before you do this, you need to prepare your client for treatment. A large factor in achieving good results or eyebrow healing depends on how adequately you prepare in advance.

As a Phi Artist, this is comprised of two steps:

1.      Step – Client preparation for PMU treatments

When a client contacts you to set up an appointment, or during the consultation process, provide them with instructions on how they are to arrive at their appointment in the best possible state, so that you can do your job under optimum conditions:

  • They should not tan for at least three days before their appointment
  • They should stop using any products which contain retinol or vitamin A for one month before their appointment
  • They should avoid using supplements, alcohol, caffeine, ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil at least 24 hours before the appointment
  • They should stop plucking or waxing their eyebrows one week before their appointment
  • They should not undergo any facial treatments at least two weeks before their appointment
  • If they client has Botox or other fillers in the region to be treated, they must wait at least two weeks before undergoing microblading

2.      Step – Skin Preparation For Treatment

When your client arrives fully prepared to undergo the treatment, which means that they have followed all the instructions you provided during the consultation, the Artist’s first step is to prepare the skin.  Before you being penciling in the eyebrows, the skin must be disinfected and dead skin cells removed.  Disinfection is especially important due to the nature of the treatment the client is about to undergo. The spread of any infection/illness or any other issues which may lead to the treatment’s failure is the responsibility of the Artist and all those working in the salon, who must apply basic hygienic practices at all times.

During this phase, use Phi Asept Solution or Phi Cleansing Emulsion Face and Body, which are used to disinfect the skin. Next, apply Phi Tattoo Peeling, that contains microparticles which remove the dead layer of the epidermis (outer layer of the skin which protects it from toxins, bacteria and the loss of fluids), without causing any irritation.  This product is completely safe for application just before treatment due to the medicinal ingredients it contains. It is even safe for use on extremely sensitive skin.   Removing the dead layer of the epidermis reduces the possibility of swelling, bacterial infection or other complications, which in the end will allow for good results after PhiBrows treatment.

This peeling product is suitable for use on all skin types. Once you have cleaned the skin carefully, using circular motions, massage in the peeling product until you achieve desired exfoliation.  Remove the peeling product by using water or PhiWipes After Care.

The Artist should pay special attention to the skin to ensure that it is both clean and healthy before beginning the treatment.  If you notice any irregularities, for example, dermatitis, eczema or other inflammatory condition, postpone the treatment for 7 days, or until the inflammation subsides. The client must continue with adequate care during this period. Phi Topic Cream can be used to regulate certain skin conditions before microblading treatment.  Apply the cream both morning and evening for at least 7 days. Make sure the skin is clean before applying the product to the area.

Once we are sure the client has prepared adequately, we can perform the treatment.

During the consultation and treatment preparation, you have already explained the treatment to the client in detail. And now it is time to introduce the client to the healing process. It is important that you inform your client of all the healing phases, so that they don’t become unnecessarily upset, thinking that something is out of the ordinary, at any phase of the healing process.

Congratulate your client on their beautiful eyebrows. Then…

Introduce them to and explain all the steps they need to undergo post-treatment.

Instructions for the client:

After care is an extremely important part of the PhiBrows microblading treatment.  After care during the healing process usually lasts up to 2 weeks. After this period, you can stop with after care and allow your eyebrows to continue to heal on their own.  At first your eyebrows will probably be swollen and they will appear darker than desired. Once you have undergone PhiBrows microblading treatment and the healing period is over, you will begin to see the desired brow shape and color form. It is vital that you follow all the after care steps during the healing period. Your role during the healing phase is equally important to your Artist’s role during treatment.   During the healing period, scabs will appear. Be patient and do not touch the scabs, regardless of how itchy they may be.

Day 1

30 minutes after treatment it is necessary to clean the region with a Ph-neutral soap (Microblading After Care Foam or Phi Wipes After Care).  When first cleaning your eyebrows after treatment, make sure to remove any remaining pigment, colored lymph and any cream that was previously applied.  Be very gentle and patient, as your first cleaning is the most important after care step after undergoing treatment.  In the first 30 minutes after treatment, most of the lymph will be created, which must not dry out and/or crust.  Crusted lymph stops the flow of oxygen through the outer layer of the skin (epidermis), which prevents it from receiving the necessary hydration. Also, pigment is removed with the lymph crust.

Apply a small amount of foam and gently rub it into the eyebrows using circular motions. Be sure to clean the skin between your natural hairs thoroughly.  Remove the foam using a damp cotton pad, and dry the brows by gently dabbing the region with a dry cotton pad. Once your brows are dry, apply a thin layer of cream, depending on your skin type and habits.

Repeat this process 3 to 5 times throughout the first day.

If the treatment was performed in the afternoon or evening, clean your brows and apply cream as prescribed above before going to bed. Next, apply Phi Patches that you will leave on during the night. This will protect your brows from drying out or from irritation as you sleep.

Your first day of after care is now complete.

Days 2 to 4

Your skin will stop producing lymph during this period. But it is still necessary for you to continue to maintain brow hygiene.  During this period, you will need to continue to clean and apply cream to your brows 3 to 5 times per day, as you did on Day 1.

Special warning!

Just before showering, you will need to clean your brows and apply cream. This will prevent extensive loss of pigment due to exposure to steam.  Apply Skin Candy After Care Balm which creates an excellent barrier, protecting the skin from any undesired external influences.

Days 5 to 10

It is normal for the eyebrows to begin to peal from day 5.  A new layer of skin will begin to form on the treated area (epidermis) and this will cause scabs to form.  Allow them to peel off on their own, do not try to remove them or rub them off.  If you notice any larger scabs or skin irritation, contact your Artist for further instructions.

Days 10 to 14

It is normal for the peeling process to stop by day 10.  Once this is over, you can return to your daily cleaning and skin care routine.

Always bear in mind that adequate after care is responsible for 70% of your treatment’s success rate.  You need to follow the instructions until your skin is fully healed, otherwise this may lead to the loss of up to 80% of the strokes (drawn in hairs). As a consequence, this will impact the time and cost of the first corrective treatment.

Also, two weeks post-treatment, your eyebrows may begin to look very light, as though they are disappearing. This is normal, as your skin is regenerating itself. There is no need

to worry – your eyebrows will begin to regain their color after this period.

What to avoid 7 days after treatment?

The treated region is very sensitive and susceptible to infections in the days after the procedure.

Why is it necessary to avoid applying any other creams other than the recommended balms? Avoid applying makeup (powder or BB cream) in the eyebrow region. Technically, there is no reason to avoid applying these products to other areas of the face, as long as you avoid the treated region.

What if…

If you think that your eyebrows are too dark immediately after the treatment, and you can’t wait for them to fade naturally (by 30 to 40%) use Skin Candy AntiShock 1/2 After Care Cream which is intended to reduce undesired effects after PhiBrows treatment.  This cream instantly reduces the effect of too-dark brows or excessive skin redness, and it is the only safe choice after treatment.  Its special composition of ingredients has the ability to reduce excessive sebum (an oily substance which maintains the skin’s moisture levels and protects the skin). This product is suitable for use on sensitive skin.

It is also necessary to avoid the following:

  • exercise which causes the skin to perspire
  • saunas
  • tanning beds
  • facial massages
  • inhalation
What to avoid 30 days after microblading treatment?

In the following 30 days it is necessary to avoid any excessive exposure to the sun, tanning beds, light (laser) therapy, fillers or Botox, chemical peels, fruit acids, microdermabrasion, creams containing retinol or epithelizing properties.

Avoid laser treatments in the brow region (fractional lasers, laser hair removal, etc.), as they may cause the pigment to fade or may lead to inflammation.

Always protect your brows with an SPF factor, except in the first 7 days after treatment.

Antibiotics or hormonal therapy may cause pigment to fade more quickly.

After care according to skin type

  • Normal, dry or sensitive skin

These types of skin require so-called ‘wet’ healing.  Wet healing means regularly cleaning with water and a Ph-neutral soap.  After cleaning, the skin is dried by dabbing with a clean cloth or cotton pad. Next, apply a thin layer of Skin Candy After Care Balm.  The skin must not be shiny once the balm is applied, as this is a sign that you have applied too much balm.

If you notice that you have applied more than the recommended amount of balm, or that your skin is shiny, remove the excess amount with a clean cloth.

  • Oily or combination skin

These skin types require so-called ‘dry healing’.

There used to be two types of dry healing.  For years, it was believed that oily or combination skin should not be cleaned and cared for after treatment. However, in the meantime this has proven to be wrong, as this sort of practice may lead to bacterial infection or other skin complications.

Today, the prevailing opinion is that dry healing consists of thorough cleaning of the treated area, without applying a balm after cleaning. Instead of the balm, Phi Tattoo After Care Gel is recommended. This is a water-based gel which prevents the excessive sebum production that extracts pigment from the skin. Phi Tattoo After Care Gel immediately stops lymph production after treatment, thereby preventing scabs from forming and the loss of pigment.  Oak Wood extract, an ingredient contained in this gel, soothes irritated skin and reduces redness and swelling at the same time.

This product is intended for use immediately after treatment and may be applied 3 to 5 times per day over the following 7 days.  Intended for all skin types.

What is considered adequate after care during the summer months?

Clients who decide to undergo PhiBrows treatment over the summer will need adapted after care.  Due to higher outdoor temperatures and longer exposure to the sun, Tattoo Sun Protection cream is recommended. It is to be applied from day 7 after treatment.  Specially formulated to protect the skin from harmful UV rays.  It has an SPF factor of 50 (UVA, UVB). This cream does not leave greasy or white residue and is suitable for all skin types.

Skin Candy Sun&Sweat Protection After Care Cream is recommended for after care during the summer period.  Apply immediately after treatment. This product is specifically intended for clients who play sports, those who perspire more and those who spend an excessive amount of time in the sun. It is intended for use for the first 7 days after treatment in the prescribed number of times during the day (3 to 5). Then after this period, apply the product 15 minutes before engaging in any physical activity that will cause you to perspire excessively.

Exercise after Microblading and other PMU. Sports and fitness?

After care should be adapted to the client’s skin type, their daily habits and activities, which is why it is important that the Phi Artist is well-informed of the client’s lifestyle.  Skin Candy Sun&Sweat Protection After Care Cream is intended for clients who are highly physically active and/or whose activities require them to spend excessive amounts of time in the sun.   This combination of UVA and UVB filters ensures adequate protection from the sun’s rays. This formula is combined with ingredients intended to ‘lock in’ the pigment under the skin so that even excessive perspiration will not lead to loss of pigment.

At the same time, this cream has the ability to regenerate the skin, prevent infection, redness and allergies.

Microblading Aftercare Extra tips & secrets

  1. In the days following treatment, be gentle when cleaning your face, especially the brow region. Dry your skin by dabbing a clean cloth and avoid rubbing.
  2. Use products that were recommended to you by your Artist, and which suit your skin type and habits.
During the healing period, avoid using skin care products of your own choosing and which you habitually use, even if they are very high-quality products. These may contain ingredients that compromise the protective barrier or have an exfoliating effect, which may affect pigment retention.
  3. Allow the scabs that have formed during the healing period to peel and fall off on their own.Avoid speeding up this process by rubbing or scratching the skin. This may lead to scarring.
  4. Avoid sleeping with your face pressed against your pillow.Change your pillow cases regularly. It is ideal if you can use a silk or satin pillow case.
  5. Avoid applying makeup to the brow region for at least ten days after treatment. If you do apply makeup to other areas of the face, remove the makeup gently and thoroughly. Makeup removal products may contain ingredients such as oils of heavy molecular weight, which can complicate the healing process.
  6. Avoid situations which may cause excessive perspiration (e.g. saunas, very strenuous exercises, etc.), swimming in saline water (sea, ocean), public swimming pools or taking lengthy showers.Follow these instructions until your eyebrows have completely healed.

And finally, 4 to 6 weeks after treatment, your microbladed eyebrows may appear slightly uneven, which is why it is mandatory to schedule an appointment for corrective treatment. The first

corrective treatment is performed once the color has fully stabilized, which is after a period of one month post

treatment, and most often occurs at 6 to 8 weeks after treatment.

The point of the corrective treatment is to fill in any empty space and to fix anything that you may not like about your brows or that you wish to change. You are now fully satisfied with the look of your brows after a period of approximately 6 weeks.

When does the microblading procedure need to be repeated?

Despite the fact that how long your PhiBrows will have a perfect appearance is different for everyone, the average assessed longevity is 12 to 18 months, after which they will begin to fade as the body begins to break down the pigment.

Factors Affecting the longevity of microbladed eyebrows

  • Home care routine – If you fail to follow the instructions provided by your microblading Artist,
this will likely have a negative impact on retention time and they will likely fade very quickly.
  • Skin care routine The life span of your microbladed eyebrows depends on the
cosmetics products you use, because certain products contain ingredients that speed up the fading process.
  • Skin type – People with dry skin are not only perfect candidates for microblading
treatment, they can also expect their eyebrows to last longer.  People
with oily skin may need to undergo treatment more regularly if they wish to extend the longevity of
    their perfect brows.

The best thing you can do is to make a corrective appointment when you notice that your brows are beginning to fade, to lose their shape or when you begin having to fill them in with brow products/makeup.
